Eldon H Fain

Eldon H. Fain, son of Eldon L. and Vera M. (Troug) Fain, was born in Curlew, Iowa on March 4, 1931. Eldon died on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Estherville at the age of 89.

Eldon graduated from Mallard High School before earning his Bachelor’s degree from UNI, His master's degree from Iowa State, and his school administration degree from Mankato State.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1949 and was honorably discharged in 1953. Eldon married Shirley McQuown on February 7, 1954 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, two sons were born, Jeff and Barry.

Eldon worked for Ledyard Schools for five years and Estherville Schools for 30. He was a coach, driver's education instructor, and the Industrial Arts teacher. He retired in 1993.

In his free time, Eldon enjoyed woodworking, traveling, driving motor homes for Winnebago, winters in Florida and spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of the Estherville United Methodist Church.

Eldon is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Fain; his sons, Jeff (Mary A.) Fain of Hutchinson, MN and Barry (Mary C.) Fain of Springville, Iowa; grandchildren, Brian, Brent and Brad Fain and Justin (Taylor) Fain; great-grandsons, Michael Fain and Hudson Fain; his siblings, Shirley Swoyer, Greenfield, Iowa, Jerry Fain, Waterloo, Camilla Glidewell, Waterloo, Larry (Sondra) Fain, New Hampton, and Willis (Leola) Fain, Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon L. and Vera M. (Troug) Fain, a brother, Willard Fain, and a sister-in-law, Janet Fain.
