Delores Rogers Obituary

Delores “Sister Dee” Rogers, 79 of Sanderson peacefully passed away Sunday, September 6, 2020 at her home with her loving family by her side. Delores was born May 30, 1941 in Jacksonville to the late Mr. Acie and Redith (Boyd) Richardson. She grew up in Jacksonville and was a 1959 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. Just a year later, she married the love of her life, Mr. Willard Ray Rogers. They had been sweethearts since the second grade. The Rogers family settled in Sanderson and made their home there for over 50 years. Their marriage produced two children, Michael Ray and Shelli Lynn.

Delores dedicated many years to the Baker Correctional Institution as a records supervisor. She was well known as a good cook and a true and faithful friend. She would often mail hand-written cards to friends and church family, wishing them encouragement and faith to carry on through life’s trials and celebrations. She was baptized in the early 1970’s and was a faithful church attendee and follower of Jesus Christ her entire life. She, along with Mr. Ray and their family, attended Taylor Church for many years until moving to Community Full Gospel Church in her later years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Patricia Hall; her son: Michael Ray Rogers; and her beloved husband of 60 years, just one month ago: Mr. Willard Ray Rogers.

She leaves behind to cherish the years of memories: her daughter: Shelli Rogers of Jacksonville; daughter-in-law: Tina Rogers of Sanderson; grandson: Phillip (Maise) Rogers of Sanderson; and sister: Jeanette Starling of St. George.

The family will be receiving friends Wednesday, September 9, 2020 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Community Full Gospel Church, Glen St. Mary.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Tommy Richardson officiating and Rev. Mark Woods assisting.

She will be laid to rest in South Prong Cemetery beside Mr. Ray following the conclusion of the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in honor of Sister Dee to the Community Full Gospel Church building fund.
