Irma Stauber Obituary

IRMA STAUBER

Born May 26, 1917 in Budinci, Yugoslavia, to Jurij and Anna Lansek Kurnyek, she was the youngest of eight siblings. Irma immigrated to the United States in January 1939. She learned the English language, attended night school to become an American citizen, and worked hard to become a productive member of society. The day she became a citizen was one of the proudest moments of her life. She loved our country and often said that there was no other country in the world that could compare to the United States.

Irma lived in New York City and worked for Elizabeth Arden, the Guggenheim family, the Waldorf Astoria, and the Bulova Watch Factory until she married Charles Stauber in 1954. They built a home in Huntington, Long Island, New York, and started their family. In 1967, they moved to Saugerties, New York, and lived there until 1976 when they retired to Youngstown, Florida.

She loved tending to her large gardens that produced fruits, vegetables, and beautiful flowers. Irma loved to sew and made many of the clothes she and her daughters wore. Family was most important to her, and she will always be remembered for the delicious meals she prepared for the gatherings we all enjoyed so much. During retirement, Charles and Irma traveled to Europe and across the United States.

Irma was predeceased by her husband in 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Eileen (Robert) of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Yvonne (Rich) of Barrington, New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Ashley (Taylor) Weeks of Panama City Beach, Florida, Scott Wilkes, of Panama City, Florida, Gregory Dussol of Newmarket, New Hampshire, and Michelle Gaudreau (Nathan) of Barrington, New Hampshire. She is also survived by five great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to the staff at The Manor at Bluewater Bay for the wonderful care they provided Irma and for their genuine support of our family during this difficult time.

Private family services will be held at a later time.
