Cheryl Ann Day Obituary

Topsham – Cheryl Ann Day, 59, formerly of Westbrook, died Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Maine Medical Center. Born in Portland on June 3, 1961, Cheryl was the daughter of the late Reginald and Virginia (Beane) Gammon. She grew up in Falmouth and Cape Elizabeth, graduating from Cape Elizabeth High School in 1980. After high school, Cheryl began working at a shoe factory in Westbrook called Sebago Incorporated. In the following years she worked at Shaw’s in Mill Creek, Ames Department Store and Hannaford as a bookkeeper. She had a strong work ethic and wished to stay in the workforce, however, health challenges prohibited her from continuing to work. When she wasn’t working, Cheryl took immense pride in her home. Even in illness, she insisted on doing the dishes. Even when her family would try to dissuade her from doing house work, Cheryl wouldn’t hear of it. Some call it strong willed, others refer to her as being stubborn as an Irishman. To her family, that was just Cheryl being Cheryl. She enjoyed the simplistic things in life. Whether it baking for her family and friends (she was an amazing baker), watching her Soap Operas or Jeopardy, taking a leisurely Sunday drive up the coast, or spending a weekend in Lubec, it didn’t take much for Cheryl to be happy. She was happiest though when her family surrounded her. Sitting at the table, with PBR’s in the younger years and coffee as her family matured, is where Cheryl was most content. Telling stories and jokes, laughing or just chit-chatting meant the world to her as long as she was with her family. Above all else, her greatest pride and joy was her children and grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Grammy Day”. Cheryl will be remembered for being a proud, loving person who was all heart. She will be deeply missed. Cheryl is predeceased by her parents; siblings, Barbara Libby, Dottie Gammon, George Mulligan and Donald Gammon; mother-in-law, Donna Marie Day. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Michael Day of Topsham; daughter, Angela Leclair and husband Andrew of Hebron; son, Matthew Linscott; grandchildren, Tempest, Matthew and Ryleigh; sister, Carol Ricker of Florida; father-in-law, Dennis Day of Portland; sister-in-law, Dawn Marie Day of Scarborough. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law Kelly and many extended family members and friends. Due to current circumstances, services honoring Cheryl’s remarkable life will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland.
