SORENSEN: Peacefully, surrounded by his loved family, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter, on Saturday, September 5, 2020, after a long, positive and determined fight with cancer, Verner “Vern” Poder Sorensen of Dashwood, age 76. Beloved husband of Dianne Phyliss (Holt) Sorensen. Loved and proud father of Erik “Duke” and Melissa Sorensen of Dashwood and cherished papa of Emmett and Sadie. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Hans & Gerda Sorensen, Vagn & Rita Sorensen all of Denmark, John Riddoch of Sarnia, Don & Elaine Holt, Robert & Kathleen Holt all of London, Deborah & Mark Stewart of Muskoka. Remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Predeceased by his parents Ejner and Dorthea (Poder) Sorensen, his sister Vita Pedersen and her husband Svend and sister-in-law Alma Riddoch. The Sorensen Family will receive Family and Friends who wish to pay their respects for a Drive-By Visitation at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, from 4 to 7 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Dashwood, on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 11 am. The Rev. John Trembulak III Officiating. Followed by Interment Grand Bend Cemetery. Due to Covid Restrictions the church capacity for the service is 75 (please call the Funeral Home 519-237-3532 to rsvp), all attending must social distance and wear a mask, if you are unable to attend with the family in the church due to capacity regulations, you may join with them at the cemetery in Grand Bend where capacity is 100 people. Both locations of the service’s social distancing and wearing of masks when applicable will be required. Vern was very proud of his Danish Heritage. He retired from the County of Huron after 25 + years of snow plowing and road maintenance. He proudly served as Volunteer Firefighter for over 30 years with the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Dept. In his retirement, Vern made many wooden birdhouses and bird feeders and his business card was “The Vikings Workshop”. Memorial donations if desired made directly to Canadian Cancer Society, Parkwood Hospital Foundation, South Huron Hospital Foundation or Saint Elizabeth Health Care would be appreciated by the family.
