Larry G. Horstmeyer, 71 of Granite City passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at his home. Larry was born on March 2, 1949 in Granite City; the son of the late Carl and Dora (Barnhart) Horstmeyer. Larry was a coal handler for 42 years at US Steel retiring in 2014. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and a member of “SOAR” Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees. Larry was a huge fan of American History and enjoyed watching the Smithsonian channel and learning about history. He loved baseball and coached his son’s Little League Baseball team and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals with his wife. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his little dog Peanut and he will be remembered for all the special times they shared together. Larry is survived by and will be missed by his children; Traci Andrews of Granite City, Larry C. Horstmeyer of Granite City; grandchildren, Brooke, Lacy, Abby; great-grandchildren, Lyam and Layton; brother, Carl “Bud” and Jan Horstmeyer. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Diane (Wiggins) Horstmeyer. In celebration of Larry’s life, a private family graveside service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at St. John Cemetery, 2901 Nameoki Road in Granite City where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Beverly. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the American Heart Association.
