Doris Mae Stephen Melfort, Saskatchewan Obituary

Doris Mae Stephen

Doris Mae Olsen was born on her parent’s farm north of Kinistino, SK on August 13, 1930. She grew up there and attended Nordin School. She and her family moved into Kinistino when she was in her teens and that is where she completed her high school. She took piano lessons and achieved her Grade 10 and ARCT, which is the highest level in the Royal Conservatory of Music. She married her childhood sweetheart, Roy Stephen on October 6, 1950. Together they raised six children: two daughters and four sons. They worked together on the farm and also pastored two small churches. Doris had several hobbies including knitting, embroidery, crocheting, playing the piano, jigsaw puzzles and a favorite was playing Scrabble. When she and Roy began spending their winter months in Yuma, she took up golfing and bowling. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was gentle, kind, soft-spoken and respected by all those who knew her. She faithfully served the God she loved, her husband and family. She will always be remembered for being a wonderful cook and for her hospitality to others which she often had to exhibit on very short notice. She usually took a back seat during most conversations, but would also speak her mind when she disagreed with you. The last few years were not kind to her. She suffered from dementia and spent her last 3 years at Jubilee Lodge in Kinistino, where she received excellent care from the staff there. One of her favorite staff members was her daughter-in-law Donna. She always had a big smile for her. Doris passed away peacefully on September 5, 2020 and now stands in the presence of her Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister and one granddaughter. She is survived by her loving husband Roy; her children: Debra (Calvin). Bruce (Donna), Gail (Tim), Mark (Treena), Blair (Della) and Greg (Tracy) and 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. A Private Family Service was held. Memorial donations may be made to; Jubilee Auxiliary, Kinistino, SK
