Basil DeWitt White, Sr.

<p><strong>Basil D. White Sr. passed away at home on Saturday September 5 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Mildred T. James and J.B. White. Basil worked as a Food Service Supervisor for the North Carolina Department of Corrections. He was a long time member of Elizabethtown Baptist Church, having served as a Deacon and on other committees. His passion, however, was serving in the kitchen for Wednesday night meals and various other functions of the church. He also enjoyed cooking for the ECA school children. Basil loved his family and enjoyed hearing from them, sharing their experiences and watching them grow. Nothing pleased him more than to cook for a birthday or a special meal.</strong></p> <p><strong>Basil is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pat White, a son De White (Kim) and a daughter Meg Tessenear (Brian). His grandchildren include Megan White, Anna Kate White, Cameron White and Hannah Tessenear. He has two sisters Brenda Cobb (Glenn) and Ellen Crouse (Bruce) ; three brothers Dennis Hearn (Billie), David Hearn (Debbie), Greg Hearn (Anita) , along with many beloved nieces and nephews.&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday September 11 at 2 pm at Elizabethtown Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or the Shepherds Fund of Elizabethtown Baptist Church.</strong></p> <p><strong>*Family requests masks be worn.&nbsp;</strong></p>
