Irene Gordon-Carter Obituary

Irene Gordon-Carter, 103, of Plattsburgh passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the home of her daughter with her loving family by her side while under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Altona on March 23, 1917 the daughter of Wilfred and Emma (Rabideau) LaFave. Irene was an aircraft spotter during WWII. She received her Bachelors and Master Degrees in Elementary Education. She retired from the Plattsburgh City School District where she was an elementary teacher. Irene enjoyed cooking, baking cakes, reading and word search puzzles. Irene was a member of the former St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, the Altar Rosary of the Ladies of the Lake and the Catholic Daughter of the Americas. She was predeceased by her first husband Euclid Gordon, her second husband Francis Carter, a son Neil Gordon, her siblings; Hazel, Mabel, Catherine, Lillian, Wilfred, Antoine, Donald, Hattie, Harold, Clarence, Blanche, Alice and stepsons Donald and Francis Carter. Irene is survived by a daughter Ann Sweeney and her companion Bob Kidwell, a son Terry Gordon, a sister Stella (Donald) Mitchell, three grandchildren; Leslie (Matthew) Ranger, Eric Sweeney, Michael Sweeney, two great grandchildren, Emma and Sarah Ranger, several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepchildren; Jane (Edward) Bouvia, Doris LaFave and Genny (Jim) Corron. Calling hours will be Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the North Country. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Due to the pandemic social distancing and face coverings are mandatory.
