Beulah Mae Mitchell Smith Saraland, Alabama Obituary

Beulah Mae Mitchell Smith

Beulah Mae Mitchell Smith passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday September 5, 2020. Beulah was the daughter of Ervin Alvin Mitchell and Allie Maybell Mayo Mitchell of Red Level, Alabama. Mama was the first person we thought to call when any advice was needed or if we just needed someone to listen or to tell us how to solve any issue. She was constantly checking on everyone else and making sure all of her kids were accounted for. Every time we would leave from where she was and go somewhere else, she would say “Call and let me know you’re there”. More times than not, she would call us just as we were arriving and say “are you there yet? You were supposed to call me”. Mama knew. We often joked that she had ESP. anytime we tried to shield her from any kind of bad news, she would ask us if there was anything we needed to tell her. Mama knew. The night before Daddy passed away she didn’t want to leave the hospital. She wanted to stay the night with him. He told her to go home and get some rest. He passed during the night. Mama knew. As we have talked to family and friends over the past few days, a common thought was always shared. Mama always checked on everyone else and thought about others before she thought about herself. But isn’t that what we should all do? Mama knew. Mama’s body gave out on her but her mind, heart and soul was strong to the end. Mama called out during her last night for her Mama. Mama knew. It is truly an honor and a privilege to have been given this wonderful lady as a Mama. She is survived by her children Ann (Robert) Nicholas, Faye (Walter) Harris, Diane (Clay) Pike, David Smith, and Debora Pruitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leon Smith, Daughter in Law, Connie Smith, Son in Law Dennis Pruitt and her six brothers, Joseph Mitchell, Everett Mitchell, Lomax Mitchell, M. T. Mitchell, Billy Mitchell, and Ervin Mitchell. Mama leaves behind lots of grandchildren, Paul Nicholas, Brent (Destiny) Harris, Shaun (Lori) Harris, Blake (Erin) Harris, Stephanie (Ben) Kunz, Brandon Smith, Rachel Smith, Caleb Smith, Jason (Hayley) Pruitt, Sarah Pruitt, and Allie (Calhoun) Powell. And great grandchildren Brandon Harris, Whitney Harris, Brad Harris, Avery Harris, Drew Harris, Cooper Harris, Mason Harris, Ben Harris, Alaina Harris, Harper Kunz, Carleigh Kunz, and Grady Powell. She is also leaving behind two sisters, Louise Morgan and Glenda Cannon. You two ladies were loved by her in ways that can’t be described with words. Extended family members that held a special place in Mama’s life that we would like to thank for always checking in on her and she loved so much - Sue Morgan Jordan, Jeanette Carter, Wayne Griggs, Marie Mitchell, Alvin Mitchell, Mickey Mitchell, Helen Mitchell, and Dwain Mayo. Mama’s doctor, Dr. Donald Sanders was a very special person to her. We would like to thank him for taking such good care of her over the years. We know Mama is in Heaven having the absolute best family reunion ever right now. It’s hard to imagine how we will get through the coming days. But Mama was always a ‘just get it done’ kind of person and she would want us to keep living our lives and checking in on each other. We love you Mama and we know that you knew. The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday from the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
