Frank M. Darcy, Jr. Obituary

Frank Michael Darcy Jr., 72 of Des Moines, passed away September 5th, 2020. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, September 10 at St. Augustin Church. The family requests that those in attendance wear masks and practice social distancing. The service will be live-streamed at this link https://youtu.be/_jXFqj3rL30 or at the bottom of this page. Frank was born to Helen and Frank Darcy Sr. on August 7th, 1948, in Milton, Massachusetts. In 1966, Frank graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois where he excelled at football. That same year Frank enrolled at Drake University where met his future wife, Virginia (Ginny). Frank and Ginny were married in the winter of 1970 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Frank graduated from Drake in 1971 with a B.A. in Economics and Business Administration. While at Drake, Frank worked as a Mechanical Draftsman, utilizing the skills he gained while tinkering with erector sets as a child. Following graduation, Frank went to work at Electrical Engineering and Equipment (3E) as a Draftsman. Frank soon moved into the position of Designer Engineer at 3E, a position he later held at Corn States, Triple-F and Insta-Pro. In 1996, Frank launched his own engineering design business, Darcy Design Service LLC (DDS). At DDS, Frank continued to work on projects throughout the world by troubleshooting problems and designing solutions. He enjoyed meeting people and making friends in varying industries. Frank continued working into 2020, albeit scaling back in the past few years. Frank was immensely proud of the long-term success of his consulting business. Frank was a long-time parishioner at St. Augustin Catholic Church in Des Moines, especially enjoying the 8:00 AM Mass of Monsignor Bognanno (Frank was always up with the chickens). His other interests included restoring and driving cars, especially Porsches, auto racing, and boating at Clear Lake. Frank was a season ticket holder for the Iowa Hawkeyes during the Hayden Fry era where he enjoyed tailgating and watching games with friends and family. Some of Frank’s favorite memories include coaching soccer, umpiring baseball, and sitting as a proud spectator at all of his boys’ activities. More recently, Frank enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and games. Frank is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia (Toepke), sons Michael (Megan) Darcy and Steven (Ellen) Darcy, his brother Steven Darcy (Cheryl) and his sister Diana Steigauf (Edward), granddaughters Quinn, Madeline, and Maeve and his grandson, Harrison, sister-in-law Mary Toepke, nieces Jeanette (Toepke) Stocking, Kristen (Stiegauf) Bartosic, and Tracy (Steigauf) Schietinger. Frank was predeceased by his parents, granddaughter Caroline Darcy, and sister-in-law, Nancy Sior. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donation to No Foot Too Small or St. Augustin Catholic Church. ARRANGEMENTS BY ILES FUNERAL HOMES ~ DUNN'S CHAPEL
