GODFREY, Marian (MURDOCH) Halifax/Pictou GODFREY, Marian - 89, of Halifax, formerly of Pictou, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2020 at Drummond Hall, Parkland Nursing Home, Halifax. Born in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Gladys (MacLeod) Murdoch. She graduated from Pictou Academy and worked at the Royal Bank Branch in Pictou before moving to Halifax in 1957. In Halifax, she worked for Scouts Canada, Nova Scotia Branch from 1957-1962. Marian went on to study Weaving at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. One of her woven runners was accepted and toured Canada on display for the Centennial Exhibit in 1965. In 1961 she and David Godfrey were married and they shared 54 wonderful years together. Marian loved church, and was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Pictou where she was the Superintendent of Sunday School for many years. Marian was a long standing member and Elder of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Halifax. She served for 19 years as president of Calvin Presbyterian Church Auxiliary of the Atlantic Mission Society and 13 years as treasurer of the Atlantic Mission Society of Eastern Canada. In 2008, she was awarded “Honorary President of Atlantic Mission Society”. Marian was very active in her community for many years as a member of the Rebekah’s, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Nova Scotia Paraplegic Society, a member of the Friendship Club of the Ecumenical Church Group, and a member of Scouts Canada. In 1984 Marian was awarded a thirty year service award with Scouts Canada. She is survived by daughter, Carmen; son, Brenton (Jennifer); grandchildren, Gerritt and Falon, all of Halifax; sister, Patricia M. Borresen, Brick, New Jersey; sister in law, Elizabeth (Betty) Matheson, Riverview, NB; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, David. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 6-8 PM in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. A graveside service will take place in Haliburton Cemetery on Friday at 11 AM with Jacquie Ross officiating. Donations in her memory may be made to the Local Food Bank or a charity of choice.
