Waunita L. Ohler Obituary

Waunita L. Ohler, 96, of Elkridge Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2020.

Waunita was born on May 14, 1924 in Bulls Gap Tennessee. She was raised with her beloved
sister Arrah Wanna.

In 1941, she wed Ed Moyer, going on to have a son, Wayne, in 1942. Only a few months later,
Ed was called to serve in the army. With men away at war, wives were asked to do their
husband’s jobs. Waunita and Arrah Wanna filled in for Ed, as welders at Koppers Company.
Waunita fondly recalled this time, referring to herself as “Wanda the Welder,” the lesser known
counterpart of “Rosie the Riveter.” Unfortunately, her marriage did not survive the war and
ended in divorce. She later remarried Ivan “Whitey” Ohler. Always working to support herself
and child, she had too many jobs to remember, thus dubbing herself a “Jill-of-all-trades and
master of none.” Then she found her calling, serving as an accounts manager at Lutheran
Hospital, where she had a long successful career.

Waunita enjoyed spending time with her son and his wife, Trish, aboard their house boat. She
was a long time member of their Arbutus Baptist church and later attended Elkride Baptist
church. She was a member of the Elkridge Road Runners, and volunteered with Southwest
Emergency Services. Her lifelong relationship with god prepared her to not fear death, but to
look forward to joining Jesus in heaven.

Waunita is survived by her son, Wayne, her grandchildren, Alan, Tammy, and Kirk, as well as
many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Waunita was predeceased by her
cherished sister, Arrah Wanna Long Amesbury.

All services and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake.
