Ruth Chitwood
Ruth Chitwood, 85, of Runnells died Saturday, September 5, 2020 at The Bridges of Ankeny due to complications of diabetes. Family graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 19 at Lowman Cemetery, Runnells, IA. Ruth was born in Des Moines on March 9, 1935 to William and Ruth Halsted. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and worked in the Des Moines area all of her life, including AMF Western Tool. As an avid quilter she was a member of the Des Moines and Ankeny Quilting Guilds. She enjoyed time with her friends in the Red Hat Society. Ruth was devoted to her family. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Charles (Tammi) Chitwood of Runnells; two grandsons, Ian (Adriana) and Adam (Ashley) Chitwood; three great granddaughters, Abigail, Mya and Clarissa Chitwood; as well as a brother, George Halsted; and nieces and nephews in the Central Iowa area. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 49 years, Thomas; son, Thomas Michael; and two brothers, Jack and Dick Halsted.
