David L. Furman ASHTABULA- David Lee Furman, 73, ended his courageous battle from the effects of Agent Orange on Saturday, September 5, 2020. The son of James Raymond and Evelyn M. (Campbell) Furman, David was born on November 3, 1946 in Ashtabula and remained a long-time area resident. David served in the United States Army from1966 until his honorable discharge in 1972. David’s body type allowed him to be a “Tunnel Rat” during the Viet Nam War. He was proud of his service to his country. He and men like him were heroes as were many other Viet Nam Veterans. David is a Life Member of VFW Post #943 of Ashtabula. David and Cathy McDowell were united in marriage on September 11, 1985 and would have celebrated thirty-five years of sharing love and laughter; holding each other close during the difficult times and celebrating each day together. After his return to Ashtabula, David worked for Lake City Plating for twenty four years. David was ”into” sports. He loved them all! He coached football, basketball and baseball as well as being a umpire for Little Leagues in both Saybrook and Ashtabula. Dave is a loving husband, dad and grandpa as well as a great grandpa. He loved encouraged and supported his family. He will be remembered for his courage and strength during difficult times. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Furman of Ashtabula; children, Tracy Keyes, Adam Furman, both of Ashtabula, Christopher Bowers of Conneaut, and Catrina and Garold Shreve also of Ashtabula, eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; siblings, Evelyn Johnson, Jeannie Sesler, Sherry Smith, Sharyn Platt, Linda Seither, and Jimmy Furman; loving nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death, by his sister, Teresa Furman and his parents. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Ducro funeral home, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion #103 Dewey Howlett Post. Calling Hours will be observed from 4PM-6PM on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at the funeral home. David’s family is grateful to Hospice of the Western Reserve for the love, care and concern for David and his family.
