Steven A. “Steve” Eidsness, age 67, resident of Brocket, ND, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 4, 2020, after a battle with cancer.

Steven Alfred Eidsness was born May 11, 1953 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Mervin and Frances (Kolden) Eidsness.  He grew up on the family farm in Newbre Township, near Brocket.  He was a graduate of Lakota High School with the class of 1971.  Following graduation, Steve enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1971 to 1975.  Upon his discharge, he returned to farm with his parents; making farming his life.  In 1988 with his father’s death, Steve farmed with his mother, until her death in 2017.  Steve has two sons, Shane and Troy.  Steve married Laurie Johnson on February 21, 1986.  Over the years Steve enjoyed many hobbies, including flying, fishing, his peacocks, pheasants, geese, ducks, chickens, and many other feathered friends, as well as Tiny the lynx, his housecats, and his horses.  Steve was very proud of sharing his horses and love of reining with his granddaughters.  Steve earned 3rd place in the non-professional reining division at the Appaloosa World Finals in Ft. Worth, TX and qualified to compete for AQHA in non-professional reining in Oklahoma City.  He was very involved in the Newbre Township Board, serving as Clerk for many years.  He also served as Adjutant of the Royal O. Gray American Legion Post #61 at Brocket.

Steve is survived by his wife, Laurie; his sons, Shane (Lori) of Brocket and Troy (Jennifer) of Lancaster, SC; 4 grandchildren, Cody (Khanh), Hannah, Morgan, and Emily; 2 sisters, Sandra Grunenwald of Boise, ID and Gail (Corey) Ames of Devils Lake, ND.  He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and countless cousins.

The Funeral Mass for Steve will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Lakota, ND, on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery, Devils Lake, ND.  Visitation will be held at the Church on Tuesday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue at the Church on Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Everyone is welcome to attend these services for Steve while observing social distancing guidelines.  Facemasks are encouraged but not required.
