Douglas Montgomery, son of the late Kyle and Marion (Conner) Montgomery, was born August 9, 1942 in Montgomery County, Virginia. He passed away Friday, September 4, 2020 at the age of 78 years at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, WV. Douglas grew up in an era when the coal mining industry was booming, he gained the skills of a mechanic at very young age from his father working on coal mine trucks. He used those skills later while working for the Ford Motor Company as an Automotive Mechanic as well as while serving in the US Army (Vietnam War) as a Heavy Machinery Mechanic. He was exceptionally talented with his hands and was skilled at many other trades; he worked in car sales, he did carpentry, electrical, plumbing and construction work. Doug lived his life determined with grace, courage, and no regrets. He was a collector of four-leaf clovers believing that each leaf in the clover symbolized good FAITH, HOPE, LOVE and LUCK for the finder… His fond memories will be cherished by his sister; Lucy Jane Godfrey, brother; Kyle “Popeye” (Antoinette) Montgomery, Jr., a host of children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Doug was predeceased by his Father; Kyle Montgomery, Sr., Mother; Marion (Conner) Montgomery, Sisters; Mrs. Lillie Donaldson, Mrs. Victoria Howard, Mrs. Ruth Brown, Miss Gladys Montgomery, Brother; Robert Montgomery and Son; Douglas Montgomery, Jr. (Baby Doug) Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Akers-James Funeral at Logan, WV with Rev. James Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in Guyan Memorial Gardens at Chapmanville, WV. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday, at the funeral home. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and the Governor’s guidelines for large gatherings only 25 people will be allowed in the facility at one time. Please plan your visit accordingly as you may be asked to wait before entering the building. Face coverings are also required when inside the building and social distancing should be taken into consideration.
