SUMMERVILLE, SC - In profound sorrow the Washington Family announces the passing of their beloved Mr. Edward Lee Washington, Sr., 76 of Summerville, SC., who entered into eternal rest on Wednesday afternoon at a local hospital. Mr. Washington is the beloved husband of Mrs. Blanche Caviness Washington.

Edward Lee (Ed) Washington Sr., 76 of Summerville, South Carolina, was granted his wings on September 2, 2020. Edward Lee, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was born July 24, 1944 in Ridgeville, South Carolina. Edward Lee was proceeded in death by his father, Mr. Willie Lee Washington, mother, Mrs. Clara Bell Washington and brother, Mr. Benjamin Louis Washington.
Edward Lee was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County. He enter into the workforce rather young and started working at Langston Motors for 44 year. Edward Lee started working at Baker Motor Company in 1988 where he was currently employed. In his early years, Edward Lee joined Bethel AME church in Ridgeville, SC, where he was a former member of the Trustee Board, Adult Choir and Men on a Mission.
He met and married his loving wife, Blanche Caviness Washington on April 19, 1980 and from this union they were joined as a blended family and blessed with eleven children. From a previous union, Edward Lee had nine children in which one child, Bridgette Washington, proceeded in death. Edward gained a son with his wife Blanche and a daughter, Precious Washington, who proceeded him in death. Edward Lee also had a grandson Julius Washington that proceeded in death.
Edward Lee was always positive, upbeat and had a zest of life. He loved life and all that it had to offer. He was a kind-hearted person who always greeted you with a smile and went the extra mile. He never met a stranger and treated everyone like family. You could hear his laugh from miles away. He enjoyed family gathering, landscaping, cooking the best fish in Summerville and restoring and collecting old cars.
Tears may dry and fade away, but in our hearts you’ll always stay. His legacy will forever live on through his wife, Blanche Washington; children Clara (Lamar) Davis, Summerville, SC, Edward Lee (Jocelyn) Washington Jr., Fayetteville, NC, Kathy (John B.) Elmore, St. George, SC, Dorothy (Larry) Rhodes, Beaufort, SC, Keith (Vassye) Washington, Decatur, GA, Loretta Cook, Summerville, SC, Gerald Washington, Beaufort, SC, Gregory (Lutosha) Washington, Fayetteville, GA, Shawn Caviness-Brigman (Yvonne), Summerville, SC; five siblings, Elease Irick Washington, Ridgeville, SC, Martha Washington Carter, Ladson SC, Inez Washington Funchess, Ladson, SC, Ellanora Washington Youmans, Ridgeville, SC, Charlie (Debra) Washington, Ridgeville, SC; aunts, Dora Duggins, NC, Dorothy Wheeler, Moncks Corner, SC, Christin Tribble, Columbia, SC, Florence Lary, Ridgeville, SC, Catherine Nix, North Charleston, SC, Herlene Pryor, Ridgeville, SC, Eartha Pryor, Ridgeville, SC; One Uncle West Pryor; brother in laws, Jerome (Cynthia) Lee, Frederick Caviness; twenty-six grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and coworkers at Baker Motor Company.
Edward Lee, Dad, Eddie, Ed, Uncle Ebb, and granddaddy would say, “keep your car clean cause it runs better when its clean. I love you!”
