Sean Patrick O'Brien Obituary

Sean Patrick O’Brien of Sherwood, Oregon passed away at his home on August 17, 2020. Sean was born November 8, 1961 to Ruth Diane Richards and Bernard Patrick O’Brien of Salt Lake City, Utah. Very soon after Sean’s birth the family moved to Oregon where Sean attended Rex Putnam High School, graduating in 1979. He then went on to earn a Drafting degree from Clackamas Community College. On February 29, 1992 Sean married Michelle Bany of West Linn and moved to Sherwood, Oregon where they raised their two children, Nate and Liam. Sean and Michelle remained close even after their divorce in 2006.

Sean had many interests, including hiking, biking, soccer and mystery novels, but what he was most passionate about was his work. He was employed with JHI Engineering as a Project Manager, where he worked for almost 30 years, retiring in February 2020 due to health reasons. His co-workers will recall Sean’s love of giving everyone he worked with a fun nickname, his ever-present grin and sense of humor. Sean considered everyone he worked with his family and cherished his time at the company.

Sean was a loving and hands-on father and will be desperately missed by his children, who will fondly remember times spent with their father reading books at bedtime, hiking, swimming and live theater.  They will take comfort in the memories of trips to the pumpkin patch, his home-cooked Thanksgiving dinners and his insistence of always having a real Christmas tree lit up for the holidays in the living room.

Sean is survived by his children, Nate and Liam O’Brien, sister Mollie Montoya, brothers Terrence O’Brien and Danny O’Brien, nieces Courtney Head and Allison Porter, nephew Axel O’Brien, brother-in-law Jerry Montoya, sister-in-law Diane Marie O’Brien, nephews-in-law Justin Head and Rhain Porter, and many loving friends and family, too many to be named, who will miss him beyond measure.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sean’s name to the Friends of Mt. Hood, https://www.friendsofmounthood.org/donate.
