Irene Smith Obituary

Irene Gadd Smith, 91 of Berea, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the Terrace Nursing Home where she had been a resident.

Irene was born in Madison County to the late Ruford and Louise Robinson Gadd. She retired from Berea College Food Service after working there 28 years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. When she was able, she enjoyed attending the Adult Women’s Sunday School Class. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, canning, working in her flower garden, sewing and she was an excellent cook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith, her siblings, William Henry Gadd, Goldie Hazelwood, Viley Thomason, Ruben Gadd, Frances Hale, John Gadd, Ed Gadd, and Charlie Gadd, and one great grandson, Austin Tillery.

She is survived by her four daughters, Bonnie (Manuel) Lakes, Gladys (Eddie) Hubbard, Shirley (Garry) Powell, and Delorise (Charlie) Evans; five grandchildren, Richard Lee (Tonia’) Tillery, Monica (Jon) Martin, Steve (Lisa) Hubbard, Michael (Heather) Hubbard, and Melissa Powell; five great grandchildren, Briana (Jake) Foley, Payton Tillery, Cain Hubbard, Emily Hubbard, and Kylie Martin; one great-great granddaughter, Kimiah Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews and step grand and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1pm, Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Davis and Rev. Larry David Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Michael Hubbard, Steve Hubbard, Cain Hubbard, Richard Tillery, Jon Martin, and Kenny Hale.
