George W. Cagle

George W Cagle, age 90 passed away Sept 1, 2020. He was born April 29,1930 in Walland. He loved his family, had a zest for life, collected knives and watches, whittled numerous walking sticks, loved telling stories and jokes, handed out "kisses" to everyone, and was a friend to all. George was a member of Broadway Baptist Church, loved his garden and flowers, and enjoyed his grandchildren. He enlisted in the Army on Nov 4, 1949 and is a Korean War and Vietnam veteran (serving two tours). SFC Cagle was also deployed to Korea, Germany, France and numerous posts stateside. He retired after 21 years of active service and received numerous medals and commendations, including the Bronze Star. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Olene, and 4 children: sons, George II (Pat), Curtis (Betsy), Billy (Julie) and daughter, Debbie Payne (David). Surviving siblings include Lorene Corrie, Nora Copeland, Shirley Headrick, Lena Giffin, and John Cagle. Eight grandchildren, Jessie Johnson, TC Payne, George W. Cagle III, Tyler Cagle, Elizabeth Fichter, Tayler Payne, Crystal Cagle, and Matthew Cagle, and 2 great grandchildren, Maddie Jo Cagle and Rhett Payne, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death, parents Hobert and Minnie Cagle, brother Fred, and sister Dorothy Presley. In Lieu of flowers please donate to the Building Fund at Broadway Baptist or the charity of your choice. Special thanks to the staff of Fairpark, DaVita Dialysis, Blount Memorial Hospital, ETHRA, Priority and AMR Ambulance Service for providing care, support and love. Viewing is Friday, Sept 4th at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home from 8 AM to 4 PM and service is at Sherwood Memorial Gardens at 3 PM on Sept 5th.
