Ruth Mae Fowler Obituary

Ruth Mae Fowler, 86, of Crowley, Texas passed away Monday, August 31, 2020.

Ruth was born on April 30, 1934 to Ocie Orene Lybarger and Julian Oscar Lybarger in Dallas.  She grew up in Dallas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951.  Soon after, she moved with her parents to Wichita Falls, Texas, where she worked as a secretary for the City National Bank.  She was married to Bobby Dale Fowler on July 4, 1958 in Wichita Falls.  They later moved to Nacogdoches, Fort Worth, and finally to Crowley in 1972.

Soon after her children began attending school, Ruth began working for the Crowley Independent School District as a secretary.  Over her 25 years with the district, she worked in many different areas, including Community Education, Transportation, and Athletics.  But she was best known in the district for her 33 years of service to the Crowley High School Mighty Eagle Band as the Band Booster treasurer.  She started her “Band Mom” career in 1982, when her oldest son, Chris, joined the band.  After her youngest son, Scott, graduated in 1990, she assumed that her 8-year tenure with the band was over.  However, head directors Ed Martinez and later Rudy Salazar had different ideas.  She is remembered by many former band members as being “everyone’s band mom.”

Ruth and her family were long time members of First Baptist Church of Crowley, and later were members of First United Methodist Church of Burleson.  She loved hymns and choral music, and was a member of the choir in every church she attended.  She was dedicated to raising her family in a Christian home, and making sure that her children grew up loving God by setting the example.

Ruth is survived by her husband Bob, her son Chris and daughter-in-law Kimberly of Allen, Texas, and her son Scott and daughter-in-law Cindy of Cleburne, Texas.  She also has four grandchildren: Andrew and Kayleigh of Allen, and Amy and Mason of Cleburne.

A memorial service will be held at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, 3407 SW Wilshire Blvd in Joshua, Tx. at 2:00pm on Saturday September 5, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her memory be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the Crowley High School Mighty Eagle Band Boosters.
