<p>Sharpsburg, MD – Jacob Edward “Jake” Bender Jr., 83, of Sharpsburg, MD passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Mertius Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.</p> <p> </p> <p>He was born on April 7, 1937 in Antietam, Maryland to the late Jacob Edward Sr. and Minnie M. Kidwiler Bender.</p> <p> </p> <p>He was a 1955 graduate of Boonsboro High School in Boonsboro, MD.</p> <p> </p> <p>Jake was a veteran of the U.S. Army.</p> <p> </p> <p>He was employed by Jamison Door Company in Hagerstown, MD for 40 plus years until his retirement.</p> <p> </p> <p>Jake was a sports enthusiast. He loved watching his grandsons play baseball and looked forward to watching the annual District All-Stars.</p> <p> </p> <p> He is survived by his wife Doris Y. Sakoda Bender whom he married October 29, 1958; daughter Terrie L. Grim and her husband Mark of Sharpsburg, MD; son Duane T. Bender of Boonsboro, MD; son Edward Y. Bender of Sharpsburg, MD; sister Katherine M. Ramacciotti of Hagerstown, MD; brother Jerry L. Bender of Williamsport, MD; brother Thomas R. Bender of Littlestown, PA; grandson Jeffrey K. Grim of Ann Arbor, Michigan; grandson Joshua M. Grim of Frederick, MD.</p> <p>He was predeceased by a sister Patricia Anne Null and a half sister Betty Jane Delauney.</p> <p> </p> <p>Graveside services will be held at Mt. View Cemetery in Sharpsburg, MD on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 11:00 with Rev. Ernest E. Witmer officiating.
