Heiner in Coalville, Utah, passed away August 30, 2020 in her home from complications of cancer. Karleen attended Lincoln Elementary School, Granite Park Jr High, and graduated from Granite High School, class of 1958. She married Vallory Haslam June 19, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. They bought a home in South Salt Lake City where she lived until her passing. Val and Karleen really wanted children and were finally able to adopt their daughter, Valeen, born March 13, 1965. They were very excited to finally start their family. Two years later on May 26, 1967 she gave birth to twin boys, Richard Paul and Ronald Ford. Their family was complete. As a family they loved camping during the summers at Flaming Gorge, Utah with their close friends Reed and LuAnn Malmborg and their family. LuAnn and Karleen were best friends from a young age. Many hours were spent with them with back yard BBQ’s, playing cards, and pine nut hunting. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had many callings which she loved, a primary teacher, secretary, greeter in Relief Society and Visiting Teacher Supervisor. She fulfilled her callings with pride. She worked at a day care for several years and was able to take her kids with her. She worked for Salt Lake City as a school crossing guard for over 20 years. She loved the kids and they loved her. On June 14, 1984 the family suffer a terrible loss when Ricky suffered a heart attack in the middle of the night and passed away. Then a little over a year later Val had an accident working at Kennecott and passed away 9 days later. That was a tragic loss for the whole family. The next year Karleen was able to go to the Salt Lake Temple and have Valeen sealed to them. Her brother Bert knelt in proxy for Val. It was a special day to be sealed for all Eternity as a family. Karleen spent a lot of time helping her mom by taking her to the store and doctor appointments and going out to eat, which they enjoyed doing. She lived the closest to her mom and was very close to her. When her mom passed away it was very hard on her and left a big void in her life. Ron has lived with her which she liked having him there; she felt safe and he was very good to her. She was lovingly cared for by her children until the end. She was happy to be in her own home and was able visit with dear friends and neighbors. She closed her eyes for the last time on August 29th as she transitioned onto her next destination, peacefully joining her husband Val, son Ricky, Father, Mother and 3 brothers, Jack, Greg and Bert. She is survived by Daughter, Valeen; Son, Ron; Sister, Kathy Howard; and Brother-in-law, Charlie; Brothers, Jim Richins, Brad Richins; and sister-in-law, Sherry; Sister-in-law, Jedie Richins; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; and cousins. She will be greatly missed. But the knowledge we have that we will be together again for eternity, and that she is now whole again and out of pain and to be with a loving Heavenly Father helps us to be happy for her. We love you mom and will miss you. Until we meet again. Viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street on Saturday, September 5th from 9:00-9:45 am followed by a graveside service at 10:00 am at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South. The service will be broadcast live on facebook.
