Florence Ida Schmidt of Deshler, NE the daughter of Louis and Grace (Uphoff) Schultz was born February 2, 1921 on a farm near Deshler, NE. She departed this life Monday, August 31, 2020 at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron, NE at the age of 99 years.

Florence grew up in the Deshler area attending Peace Lutheran Parochial Grade School and graduating from Deshler High School with the class of 1939.

She was baptized February 20, 1921 at Friedens Church in Deshler, NE, and confirmed June 9, 1935 by Pastor Schwerin.

Florence married Henry W. Schmidt on January 24, 1942 at the pastor’s home in Deshler, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of four children.

When she was first married she babysat at home when her children were young. She later worked for the Deshler Broom Factory, John Zucker helping erect grain bins, and Reinke Manufacturing. Florence lived in Deshler all of her life.

She always had a big garden, canning what she could for winter. She also enjoyed her flowers decorating her yard, home, and church.

Florence liked to play cards with her friends and family, but spending time with her children and grandchildren was the joy of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, and two great great grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons; Steve and wife Linda of Lincoln, NE, Stan and wife Pat of Malcolm, NE, and Keith and wife Donna of Pueblo, CO, daughter LaDonna Heinrichs and husband Erv of Exira, IA, brother Frank Schultz of Sheridan, WY, sisters Helen Fegter of Fairbury, NE and Edna Johnson of Davenport, NE, grandchildren; Steven and Shelly Schmidt of Eldon, MO, Heather Redwine of Lincoln, NE, Matt and Kim Schmidt of Lincoln, NE, Scott and Amy Schmidt of Lincoln, NE, Aaron and Sara Schmidt of Malcolm, NE, Lynn Stocker-Schmidt of Denver, CO, Roger and Ashley Schmidt of Audubon, IA, Shawn and Samantha Schmidt of Audubon, IA, Shalanna and LeRoy Gray of Fairbury, NE, Randy Heinrichs of Exira, IA, David and LeAnn Heinrichs of Newport, TN, Dan and Jolinda Heinrichs of Ogallala, NE, great-grandchildren; BreAnn, Jordan, Kirsten, Peyton, Emily, Elaine, John, Jada Lynn, Morgan, Hunter, Gabe, Lena, Elli, Arick, Alexander, Christina, Jayden, Bjorn, Logan, Zackary, Makayla, Eythan, Alice, Kiara, Bryar, Daymen, Nevaeh, Cale, Candy, Echo, Monica, Sarah, Travis, Curtis, Rodney, Brian, 19 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 4, 2020 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE at 10:30 AM. Officiant Pastor Jon Langness, organist Joyce Schmidt, congregational hymns “It Is Well With My Soul”, “Heaven Is My Home” and “This World Is Not My Home”. Casket bearers will be the grandsons and honorary casket bearers the granddaughters. Visitation will be Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 2pm to 6pm at Kroll Funeral Home in Deshler, NE.
