STOYAND, Robert (Bob) Roy born July 1, 1947 - August 31, 2020 aged 73 years

Robert Roy (BOB) was born the 1st child of Louis Stoyand and Margaret (Peggy) Barss, a birth date shared with his father. Bob, Ted and Colleen were raised near Dilke, SK until 1955, when they moved to the family farm near Bethune.  He attended Gladstone and Goldridge Schools, riding his horse bareback to school, weather permitting.  Grade 9 was taken at Bethune, Grs 10/11 in Lumsden and he graduated from Thom Collegiate, Regina in 1965.

Bob completed 6 months of RCAF training at Esquimalt, BC, but decided a career in banking would better suit his personality.  Initial training with the Bank of Montreal was done in Regina before his 1st transfer to Davidson, SK.  A move to Kamsack, SK June 1968 was a defining moment, as two weeks later, he met his future bride, Carole Falkiner, daughter of James M (Jim) Falkiner & Evelyn Mary Bourgeault.

Bob and Carole were inseparable until she entered Lakehead U that fall.  He followed her to Port Arthur 6 months later.  They married in Kamsack Aug 1, 1970 and spent their 1st year in Thunder Bay, ON.  He was transferred to Morden, MN in 1972 and then, once again, to Davidson, SK in 1973, where their 1st child, Robert James (Bobby) was born 1974.  Davidson was home for only seven months, before being transferred to Winnipeg, MN.

Bob was hired by Alberta Treasury Branches and the family moved to Taber, AB two weeks before the expected arrival of their 2nd child, Michael Louis, born 1976.  18 months later, Bob was transferred to ATB’s Head Office in Edmonton and they purchased a home in St. Albert.  During his career, he moved numerous times between city/rural branches and Head Office.  Bob was a self-taught musician and played in dance bands on week-ends in most communities in which he lived.  He loved water skiing, golfing, fishing & boating each summer at the Falkiner family cottage at Madge Lake, SK.  He coached his sons’ baseball teams & was an original member of the St. Albert Road Runners (STARR), running countless 10K events and completing five marathons.  He was a Charter Member of the St. Albert Cosmopolitan Club and was active for over 35 yrs.  At age 41, he became the youngest Governor, Western Canada of Cosmopolitan International.  He retired in 1997 and started Bob Stoyand Consulting Inc.  Bob was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (NHL) in 2000.  After completing a successful regimen of chemo, he became the Exec. Director, Peace Country Development Corp in Peace River, AB.  He returned 3 years later and was employed by the City of St. Albert’s Economic Development Office. During his 7 year tenure, he earned his Certified Economic Developer (Ed.D) designation from the U of Waterloo.

In 2009, he took a 6 month leave of absence to start a business with his son Bob.  “Dr. Bob’s Marine Clinic & Power Sports Service Ltd.”, located in Canora, SK recently celebrated 10 years in business.  In 2016, Bob & Carole relocated to Kamsack, SK., to care for Carole’s Mom, aged 99.  After her move into Eaglestone Lodge, Bob and Carole began the renovation/restoration of their heritage home.  Within 18 months of moving, Bob was diagnosed with a recurrence of NHL and so began his difficult journey.  He slipped away peacefully Aug 31, 2020, with family by his side. He was predeceased by his father, Louis in 1994. He leaves to mourn his family, wife Carole of Kamsack, SK, son Bob (Tracy) and his beloved grandchildren, Summer and Bobby of Theodore, SK, son Michael (Kelly) of Okotoks, AB, his mother, Peggy of Echo Lodge - Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, brother Ted of Regina, SK, sister Colleen (Dennis) of Burnaby, BC, sisters-in-law Maureen Falkiner of Nanaimo, BC and Trisha Kelly (Pat) of Tucson, AZ, brother-in-law Bob Falkiner, his son Dan and Dan’s mother, Marnie, all of the Greater Toronto, ON Region, his Uncle Don (Donna) Barss and Aunt Jean (Chuck) Schoffer of Saskatoon, SK, Uncle Doug (Alice) Barss of Regina, SK, as well as numerous cousins.
