Aron Hernandez Obituary

SGM ARON HERNANDEZ (RET.) Aron Hernandez was born on May 3, 1945 in Calexico, California. An energetic, adventurous, rebellious, ladies man, Aron found discipline, opportunity and comradery within the United States Army. He entered as an enlisted man and climbed the ranks to Sergeant Major over the course of his military career. SGM Hernandez was a combat veteran, earning two (2) Bronze Stars for meritorious acts of valor during his two tours in the Vietnam War. Hernandez was a warrior. He took a bullet for his Country, surviving enemy fire and was later hit by shrapnel from a grenade blast, earning two (2) prestigious Purple Hearts, which he would carry with well-deserved pride for the course of his life. Hernandez was a family man. In 1970 he married Judy Duke and welcomed his first child, Julia Hernandez. Aron and Judy enjoyed fond times together, though their marriage was brief. In 1980, Aron was stationed in Rutland, Vermont, where he met his second wife, Michele Carruth. Aron and Michele welcomed a daughter in 1982, and wed in Lake Tahoe, California in 1984. Aron’s beloved son, Nicklaus “Nick” Hernandez was born in 1986. Hernandez was respected. SGM Hernandez moved his family to Reno, Nevada in 1991, where he discovered a passion for teaching as an ROTC instructor at Hug High School. Aron’s personality was to give 100% or nothing at all. Not only was he an instructor, he also undertook coaching the rifle team, and the Color Guard which would present the colors at school sporting events, Veterans Day parades and similar events within the community. During his career, Aron also taught at Incline High School and worked alongside the ROTC District Supervisor at Reno High School. Aron’s involvement and friendships with his students enriched his life immensely. Hernandez gave his time. Following retirement from the Washoe County School District, Aron remained involved in the community. Over the next 12 years, Aron volunteered at the local VA hospital, driving veterans who lacked transportation to and from medical appointments and serving complimentary coffee in the halls of the hospital. Aron is recognized for selflessly volunteering thousands of hours of his time over the years. He cherished his time at the VA and the friendships born there. Aron passed away on August 22, 2020. He is survived by siblings Frank, Manuel, Jesse, Daniel, Virginia, and Roseanne. Aron will be dearly missed by his children Julia, Heather and Nicklaus, and grandchildren Lacey and River. An intimate service will be held Tuesday, September 1 at the Mountain View Mortuary. Due to limitations of the COVID pandemic, the family will hold a Celebration of Life on the one-year anniversary of Mr. Hernandez passing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, an organization which provides support to combat-wounded veterans and their families. https://www.gofundme.com/sgm-aron-hernandez
