Roland Gilliss Taylor Obituary

Roland Gilliss Taylor

    1937 - 2020

On August 30, 2020, Roland Taylor of Napan, NB passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.

Roland was born on February 5, 1937 at home in Napan, NB.  After being raised on, and working on the family farm in Napan, he went on to driving trucks.  From there he began his career with the Northumberland Co-Op Dairy doing milk delivery and, eventually, working in accounts.  Roland always spoke fondly of his time at the Co-Op with Bill Vickers, and many others he worked with.  From 1974 to 1994, he was a leasee-dealer operating the Irving Gas Station on Highway 11, known as Taylor’s Product Bar.  In 1995, he built City Limits Convenience, which he ran from 1995 to 2005, when he retired.

As a milkman, he met countless people but the most important person he met on his milk runs was his spouse, Elizabeth “Liz” (DeWolfe).   From 1974 to 2005 those two businesses were built with Liz as co-owner, and they were quite the team!   Roland and Liz had married in 1961 and later built a family; Roland is survived not only by Liz but by children Derek (Mandy) and Lana (Robert Prince), and his grandchildren Devin, Jacob, Joshua and Nate, all of whom made him extremely proud.

He is survived by siblings Roy (Doreen), Keith (Phyllis), Elizabeth “Betty” (Milt MacInnis).

He is also survived by neighbours and close friends of over 50 years, Faye and Jim Wilson.

Roland is predeceased by his parents Mac and Connie, as well as siblings:  Eldon, Malcolm and Jessie.

Roland was a “people person” who truly enjoyed working, but mostly because of the countless Miramichi folks he would meet at the stores; in his spare time he loved to golf, fish at the Cains River, play cards and, most importantly, agitating and instigating people with his constant tormenting!

A private funeral service was held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, 140 King St. Miramichi officiated by The Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight.  The organist for the service was Mr. William Sweezey.   Recorded hymns were played:  “In the Bulb There is a Flower” and “In The Garden”.  The lighting of the Memory Candle was by Lana Taylor and words of remembrance were presented by Derek Taylor.  Scripture readings were read by Clarke Fraser and a poem “He Is Gone” was read by Brent Taylor.   Interment followed at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Miramichi.

As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492 or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca
