Zachary Case Carey
Monday August 24, 2020, Zachary Case Carey beloved Son of Lloyd and Inge, Brother to Hillary and Patrick Carey, Grandson of Katharina Tuma and Ivan and Linda Carey, and Boyfriend to Nicole Mogk passed away at HSC Winnipeg, MB following a motor vehicle accident.

Zach was proud of his Canadian and Austrian heritage and enjoyed Canadian and Austrian cuisine, homemade or at restaurants when we took him to visit family in Austria. His own claim to fame, in the kitchen, was making 1lb burgers for himself to eat, despite all that he was still zero percent body fat and hated the cold.

Zach had been working for Power Vac in Brandon, MB. for several years and enjoyed good times with his co-workers. He particularly enjoyed out of town work trips to places like The Pas, if it meant they could go to some great fishing spots in the evening (thanks Jay). He and Cody even  had a gag worked out where he would drive off leaving Cody with the customer, then Cody would just say “Oh, not again!” and run down the street to catch up with the truck. Previously he had worked a few other jobs including Ransom’s Feedlot just down the road, where on one occasion he texted the boss late to say, “I will be there shortly, my bacon is almost ready.” On days off Zach would often help his good friend Rudy at his store the Purple Haze in Virden, MB. where they both had hoped the business would grow and Zach could become a full-time employee.

Zach was an avid skateboarder, and even at the farm he would create spaces to skate and work on his tricks. On family trips we would seek out skate parks along the way so he could try them out. Hillary would often be conscripted to take video of Zach skateboarding, and later she would get even by making him video her dirt biking. Zach loved his Toyota Tacoma and made it his own with many stickers. Recently Zach and Patrick had started working at getting Dad’s first car, a 1961 Bel Air going. They would often disappear to the old shop together to tinker and dream of things they could do, or just work on different projects.

Zach was the sweetest little boy and he grew up but never lost that sweet kind heart. He would never leave without an “I love you” and a hug. On his last day he had come home to spend time with his brother and had left to go make supper for his girlfriend, always thinking of others he was truly a gem.

Always one for adventure, Zach was excited about going on the STARS air ambulance.  We will be forever grateful for the tremendous care he received from EMS, Deloraine Hospital, STARS air ambulance and HSC Winnipeg.

Our hearts are broken from the loss, and we know they will never fully heal, yet we take comfort in knowing our angel Zach is watching over us.
