Joseph Edward Babb Obituary

Joseph Edward Babb, 68, of Chandler, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020.  He was born on July 14, 1952, in Dallas, Texas, to the home of William Thornton and Mary Kathlyn (Ann) Babb.

After graduating from Dallas Christian High School in 1970, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he became a helicopter mechanic and earned the Rifle Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge.  He was honorably discharged in 1973, but firmly believed there is “no such thing as an ex-marine” and loved his country passionately throughout his life.

Joe had a strong work ethic, often holding more than one job simultaneously.  He earned his Master Electrician License in his 20s and later co-founded Bastrop Youth Soccer Organization.  He was also active for many years as a player, coach, and referee in the Austin, Texas, soccer community.  He loved hunting, fishing, and fantasy football.  He was always ready to help others in need, even when he had little to give.  He is now, and will always be, greatly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by his mother Mary Kathlyn (Ann) Babb; children Melissa Burnes and husband Mike, and Michele Mawson and husband Bobby; grandchildren Hannah Brown, Riley Mawson, and Elijah Mawson; brother William (Bill) Babb; sister Linda Ann Roberts and husband Robbie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by his father William Thornton Babb.
