Obituary

Peder Damgaard

1937-2020

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Peder Habekost Damgaard, after a brief illness on August 20, 2020, at the age of 83 years. Born near Gesten, Jutland, Denmark, immigrated to Canada in 1953.  In Athabasca, he met Florence Isaac, and the two were married in 1960 and had 4 daughters.

He was an entrepreneur, first with Ras-Dam Construction in 1966-1975 then a move to Colinton in 1975 to start Homaid Industries with Florence until its sale in 1995. He raised some Arabian horses and cattle, grew some oats, and baled some hay.  He rode motorcycles and joined the Colinton Volunteer Fire Department.  He loved designing and building including a cartop camping unit, a garden tractor, a barn, many houses, the Homaid packing plant, large hay wagons, and a boat loader rack.  He liked singing, traveling with Florence in the fifth wheel, and fishing for rainbow trout.

The last few years were less about traveling and more about being on his computer with emails and Facebook and tinkering around the yard.

Peder is survived by Florence, his wife of 60 years; daughters Karen (Kirk), Margaret (Kevin), Cheryl (Curtis), and Janice (Kim); 5 grandchildren – Christopher, Katelyn, Matthew (Rebecca), Melissa and Jonathan and step-grandchild Ross; 2 brothers Hans (Marlene) and Niels (Marilyn) and one sister Bodil, sisters-in-law, Helen, Elizabeth, and Inge, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Sven and Luise, brother Edward, niece Melanie, sister in law Evelyn, brothers-in-law Bill, and Jim and step-grandchild Nicole.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Colinton Community Hall on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at 11:00 A.M.

Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Athabasca Reformed Congregation.
