John left a legacy of love and joy as he sprinted all the way to the tape. He truly cherished every experience, relationship and adventure life could offer. His heart and home were open to every person who crossed his path and he found fulfillment in helping people discover their potential.

John was born in Sydney, Nebraska to Camille Colombier and Arthur Riggle. He was raised in Denver, Colorado, and later attended Brigham Young University where he played volleyball and studied Communications, Sociology, French, and Physical Education. He then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in France and Switzerland. He married his sweetheart, Marlene Schaefer on April 5, 1973.  Their 47 years of marriage brought the adventures of 6 children, 21 grandchildren and countless friends in each of the states they lived (Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Utah). His love for his wife and family were an example to all who knew him.

John had a successful career in management positions at four different television stations. He served on more than 20 non-profit boards, including over 25 years of service with the Boy Scouts of America, earning him the honor of the Silver Beaver Award. John was a talented musician and artist and enjoyed a variety of hobbies including  fishing, golf, gardening, sports, family history and enjoying the outdoors.
