Lavina Kay Merritt Obituary

Lavina Kay Merritt-Harrison, 77, of Noble, Oklahoma, passed away August 23, 2020 after long struggle with multiple chronic illnesses.  She was born in March of 1943 to parents William and Maxine Mercer in Dewey County, Oklahoma.

Lavina graduated from Noble High School in 1961.  She married Buford Kent Merritt in 1967.  They had three sons Randel, Dustin and Brenton. They were married until Buford passed away unexpectedly due to cancer in 1995. 

Lavina remarried to her current husband, Lloyd Harrison in Noble, Oklahoma in 2002.  Lavina is survived by her husband Lloyd; aforementioned sons; her brothers and sisters, Lanny, Lyla, Rick and Lana; and step-children, Kenneth and Joyce Harrison. 

She was predeceased by her parents William and Maxine Mercer.

Lavina worked as an admissions clerk at Oklahoma University, as the secretary for OU’s Engineering Dean, where she met her first husband, Buford. 
That was followed by working as the Secretary for the Kansas Governor and also chairing the Governor’s Commission on women’s issues until the birth of her first son.   

Her favorite hobbies included oil painting, crocheting and many other arts and crafts.   

She and her second husband, Lloyd ran a food bank out of the Noble United Methodist Church for several years until their health would no longer allow.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society and/or the American Diabetes Association.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, located at 120 South Broadway, in Moore, OK.  Interment to follow at Fairview Maguire Cemetery, 6664 96th Street, in Noble, OK.  Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, Moore OK.
