Obituary

Joe Don Porter, 62, of Cambridge, Nebraska passed away at his home in Cambridge on August 5, 2020.  He was born to Walter Elmer and Willie Estell (Barber) Porter in Waurika, Oklahoma on September 24, 1957.  Joe Don attended school in Jefferson County, Oklahoma and graduated high school in Waurika with the class of 1976.

He worked for construction companies running twin-engine dirt scrapers, Cats and other heavy equipment for more than 20 years.  The years of operating construction equipment took a toll on Joe Don’s body and in 2001 he moved to McCook, Nebraska where he worked at Valmont as a machine operator until 2016 when health issues forced him to retire.  In slow times and off seasons, he enjoyed running a swather for his close friends.

Joe’s favorite hobbies included buying small things for his friends and driving his pickup down B Street.  Joe was a very special person; he was liked by everyone he met.  He always talked about “the good old days” and fishing with his daddy.  He was quick witted and was always ready with an answer for any question.

Cremation was chosen and in honor of Joe’s wishes there will be no service.  Friends may leave words of comfort at lockenour.com.  Memorials are suggested in Joe’s name and can be left at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary.  Lockenour-Jones Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements.
