Lars John Hancock

On August 22, 2020, Lars John Hancock passed away due to cancer and complications of diabetes. He was born in Payson, Utah on October 29, 1947 to Leo John and Della Larsen Hancock. Lars graduated from Payson High School and went on to Snow College. He had many jobs but his most rewarding was as a Substitute Teacher.He mostly taught at Mt Nebo Jr. High in Payson. He taught all subjects, but his passion was teaching the kids with disabilities. He loved them so and was so patient with them. Lars was an avid fisherman. He promised his mom he would not move more than 15 minutes from Maple Lake, so he took that to mean he would fish every day. He would tie his own flies. Everyone know his "Killer Diller of the West". What wonderful times fishing at Maple Lake. Lars had the tallest tales to tell and saved the best for his Grandkids. He leaves behind a Wife, Sarah Paris Hancock (Payson), Daughters, Alicia Hoag Chappell (Payson), Dawn Hancock (Orem), Son Quinn (Melissa) Hancock (Vineyard). He joins a Son, Justin L Hancock, deceased. Bonus children, Karin (Tyler) Edwards (Payson), Kimberly (Adam) Harmon (Salt Lake City) Sisters Susan (Pete) Schirmer (Payson),, Jane (George) Jakeman (Orem). A Brother preceded him in death Dale (Patsy) Hancock. His blessing - 15 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. He was so loved and will be missed. There will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held at the Payson City Cemetery on Thursday, Aug 27th, at 10:30 am. Due to Covid-19, the family requests masks and social distancing at the service.
