Benjamin R. Lindsley Obituary

Benjamin R. Lindsley, 85, a resident of the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, NH, passed away August 18, 2020, due to natural causes.

He was born May 14, 1935 to parents Corinne L. Lindsley and Cecil E. Simpson in Montclair, New Jersey. Ben lived most of his life in Belmar and Lake Como before moving briefly to Lakewood, all in New Jersey, prior to moving to New Hampshire in 2013 to be closer to his sister’s family. He attended Belmar Grammar School and graduated from Manasquan High School, Manasquan, New Jersey in 1953. He was a lifeguard on the Eighteenth Avenue Belmar Beach before joining the U.S. Navy. After basic training in Maryland and attending the U.S. Naval School in Millington, Tennessee, he served on the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea, assigned to the flight deck and attending to the first carrier-based jet aircraft. He was very proud of his military service. His last duty station before his honorable discharge from the Navy was at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in support of lighter-than-air flight. He then attended the Teterboro School of Aeronautics graduating in 1960 as an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic. Deciding he had done enough travel in the Navy, he endeavored to build a career that would keep him close to home and worked in the plumbing, heating & mechanical industry until his retirement.

Ben met and fell in love with his life partner, friend and confidant Carol Cort, and they were married in June of 1969 in Belmar, New Jersey. They later expanded their family to include their adopted son Joseph. Ben is survived by his adopted son Joseph Lindsley & partner Elena Graf of Neptune, NJ, his sister Alice Tinker of South Acworth, NH, Nephews; Ross Patterson of Keene, NH, Scott Patterson of Montpelier, VT, Bruce Patterson of Windsor, VT, and grandchildren; Shaye Lindsley, Damon J. Lindsley & Richard Condello. He is predeceased by his mother Corinne Lindsley Simpson, father Cecil E. Simpson and his wife Carol Cort Lindsley.

While in New Jersey, Ben had been an active member of the St. Rose Parish of Belmar and local chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American legion. He very much enjoyed spending his spare time fishing the local streams, ponds & deep sea.
