Burnett Maybank Morris

Burnett Maybank Morris, 81, husband of Jacqueline Barnes Morris, died Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey. Born September 12, 1938, in Orangeburg, he was a son of the late James Elliott Morris and the late Dorothy Bryant Morris. Mr. Morris was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He owned and operated the Courthouse Barbershop on Main Street for more than 55 years. An avid outdoorsman, he was a longtime member of Riverside Hunting Club where he enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors with his sons. Survivors, in addition to his wife of more than 58 years, include two sons, Burnett M. “Marty” Morris of Sumter, and Kyle Morris (Patricia) of Charleston; two grandchildren, Steven Morris, and Aidan Morris; one brother, James Lin Morris of Columbia; one sister, Marjorie Lee (Gary) of Columbia; one brother-in-law, Leo Barnes of Augusta; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Steve Williams officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. Memorials may be sent to Grace Baptist Church, 219 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
