<p>Myrtle Helen McCoy Holland passed away, at the age of 97, on Monday, August 10, 2020 at Bon Secours Hospital in Mechanicsville, VA.&nbsp;</p> <p>She was born on August 23, 1922 in Cove City, NC, the daughter of Mark Hebrew McCoy and Willie Franklin Stroud McCoy. &nbsp;As a young girl, she was baptized in the Mormon tradition.&nbsp; She attended elementary school and high school in Dover, NC.&nbsp; She went on to graduate from the Durham Institute of Barbering.&nbsp; Myrtle married the love of her life, Richard Edward &ldquo;RE&rdquo; Holland, on July 16, 1973.&nbsp; They worked and lived together in Tappahannock, VA where she lived for the rest of her days.&nbsp;</p> <p>Myrtle liked to stay in touch with family, friends and acquaintances. &nbsp;She was fond of discussing family history and had a sense of humor that could liven up any conversation.&nbsp; She often returned to Cove City, NC where she enjoyed attending the Fireman&rsquo;s Day, her high school reunion, and the Jim Taylor family reunion.&nbsp; She also traveled throughout Virginia to visit with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; If someone asked her about her travels, she would sometimes reply, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m attending to my business.&rdquo;</p> <p>She was preceded in death by her first husband Richard Floyd McCoy Sr.; &nbsp;her second husband, Richard Edward &ldquo;RE&rdquo; Holland; &nbsp;a loving son, Richard Floyd McCoy Jr.; &nbsp;and siblings Lela Mae Collins, &nbsp;Lula Beatrice Meritt, &nbsp;Dorothy Demple Johnson, &nbsp;Janie Lucille Kornegay, &nbsp;James Timothy McCoy, &nbsp;Arthur Hebrew McCoy, &nbsp;and Mark Anthony &ldquo;Mack&rdquo; McCoy.</p> <p>She is survived by &nbsp;a brother, Woodley Franklin &ldquo;Buck&rdquo; McCoy of Cove City; &nbsp;her devoted son Russell Edward Holland and wife Debbie of Powhatan, VA; &nbsp;grandchildren Chant&eacute; Teresa McCoy, &nbsp;Richard Floyd McCoy III, &nbsp;Deborah Challen Holland, &nbsp;Marcia Gail Headley and husband Jeff, &nbsp;Russell Edward Holland Jr. and wife Anna, &nbsp;and Amanda Helen Holland; &nbsp;great-grandchildren &nbsp;Carl Winston Opauski III, &nbsp;Sarah Jane Edwards, &nbsp;Charles Scott Edwards, &nbsp;Caroline Elisabeth Edwards, &nbsp;Emma Brook Headley, &nbsp;Savannah Challen Headley, &nbsp;Olivia Grace Headley, &nbsp;Olivia Riley Aston, &nbsp;Russell Edward &ldquo;RE&rdquo; Holland III, &nbsp;Joshua Mathias Holland, &nbsp;Richard Simon Riera-McCoy &nbsp;Chelsea Chante Willie McCoy, &nbsp;and Emily Page Hudson; &nbsp;and great-great-grandchildren Vada Renee Opauski, Sami Marie Hudson,&nbsp; and Harrison Reid Hudson.</p> <p>She will long be remembered by all those who knew her.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held Monday, August 17, 2020 at 2:00PM at the McCoy family cemetery located on Mark McCoy Road, Cove City, NC 28523</p>
