Ruffin, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Bessie Lea Wade Coleman, 94, of 64 Ashland Road, Ruffin, North Carolina, who died Wednesday, August 13, 2020 at the Sovah Health, Danville, Virginia.

Mrs. Bessie Lea Wade Coleman affectionately known as “Big Ma” was a native of Caswell County, North Carolina born on June 1, 1926 to the late Rev. Gwynn Wade and Georgiana Poteat Wade. 

Mrs. Bessie Lea Wade Coleman was a faithful member of High Rock Baptist Church until her health declined.  She was a homemaker and worked as a private sitter.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bessie Lea Wade Coleman was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee “Dock” Coleman; two sons, Roy Coleman, Jr and Larry Coleman; four sisters, Enza Lea, Ada Lea, Jennebeth Wade and Faye Bell Blackwell and one brother, John Wade.

 

Mrs. Bessie Lea Wade Coleman leaves to cherish her beloved memories to her: One daughter, Mary Coleman Harrison of Ruffin, North Carolina; one stepdaughter, Patsy Coleman of Virginia Beach, Virginia; four grandchildren, Mia Gwynn (Artie), Sonya Yancey, Kevin Coleman and Kevin Parker; six great grandchildren, O’Bryant Yancey, Rodraus Jeffries, Dominique Yancey, Rhakeem Jeffries, Christen Mims and Kayden Coleman; three great-great grandchildren, Jahliyah Yancey, Teagan Jeffries and Bricen Yancey; nieces, nephews, devoted cousins, Queen Jones, Inez Lambert and Agnes Mitchell, other relatives, and friends.

 

Due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak a  viewing will be Sunday, August 16, 2020 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home with a limit of 10 people at a time.   (Per CDC Guidelines:  Facial Masks are required).

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bessie Lea Wade Coleman will be Monday, August 17, 2020, 12:00 Noon in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home, 219 Dillard School Drive, Yanceyville, North Carolina.  Pastor Henry Long will deliver the words of comfort. ( Facial Masks are required ).

 

Interment will follow at the High Rock Baptist Church Cemetery, 3330 High Rock School Road, Blanch, North Carolina.
