Delma B. "Dell" Humphreys Breckenridge, Texas Obituary

Delma B. "Dell" Humphreys

Delma “Dell” Boyd Humphreys, 78 of Breckenridge, Texas passed away at his residence on August 13, 2020. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 in the Chapel of Memories at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home with Father Adams officiating the service. The family will welcome friends for a visitation at the funeral home from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17. Interment will follow the service at Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of the staff at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Delma Humphreys was born on May 3, 1942, in Breckenridge to parents Homer and Violet Humphreys. He was raised his entire life in Breckenridge. One hot summer evening, Dell strolled into Dairy Delight on Walker Street wanting a milkshake and a burger. It was that evening that he met a young lady who worked there named Rosella. The two hit it off and began dating. After a brief couple of months, the couple married here in Breckenridge. Married almost fifty-five years, the couple raised their two children in the small community they loved. Dell was a truck driver for most of his life. At the age of fifty, he obtained his GED and went back to school to obtain a license for massage therapy. Outside of his clients, his family and friends -- especially his side kick, Judy -- all played a vital role in his life. Dell had a forgiving nature, a desire to uplift those around him, as well as a gift to take up for battered women and children from troubled homes. Dell loved bringing a smile to kids’ faces. Depending who you ask, Dell loved nothing more than taking a walk with his best friend (his dog Judy), something they did frequently. Dell was preceded in death by his parents, sister Zodia Grimes, and brother Terry Humphreys. He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Rosella Humphreys; daughter Bonnie Humphreys of Breckenridge; son Stacey Humphreys and wife Kellie of Burleson; sister Gloria DeGood of Grand Rapids, Michigan; brothers George Humphreys of Wichita Falls, Pat Humphreys and wife Rena of Breckenridge, Paul Humphreys of Walnut Springs, and Cleve Humphreys and wife Caramia of Breckenridge; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and of course, his dog Judy. Donations can be made in Dell’s honor to Meals on Wheels or the Stephens County Humane Society and may be left at the funeral home office. Condolence may be made at meltonkitchens.com
