Edwin Albert Knoblauch Obituary

The peaceful death of Mr. Edwin Albert Knoblauch, 84 years, of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge & Health Center, Watson, SK and formerly of Humboldt, occurred at his residence on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.   Edwin was born in Viscount, SK on January 29, 1936 to August and Elizabeth (nee Graf) Knoblauch.  He obtained his education in Viscount and one year in Bruno.  It was at a dance in Muenster that Ed met the love of his life Doreen Pokolm and they were wed on July 20, 1959 at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Muenster.  They moved back to Humboldt and were blessed with four children: Dinah, Gerald, Wayne and Ginger.  Ed farmed in the Burr area and worked at Schenn’s Plumbing & Heating for 10 years.  In 1967 they bought shares in W & L Plumbing & Heating and later changed the name to Humboldt Plumbing and Heating.  He was an entrepreneur and loved to tinker and make things in his shop.  Ed made many things in that shop for his family, including crib boards for everyone.  There were many people who brought things to Ed to see if he could fix them and he would try and many times he was able to.  He was always willing to stop and help anyone who needed it.  Ed and Doreen spent as much time as they could fishing and camping with the children starting with a tent and then purchasing a cabin at Missinippi (Otter Lake) where the family spent many happy hours making wonderful memories.  Ed also enjoyed hunting and was always ready for a memorable hunting trip.  He enjoyed helping his sons-in-law with their farming – cattle, combining, and baling. Even once he was in the care home, he liked when they would take a drive in the country to watch some baling or combining being done and you could tell that he wished he could be out there.  After retirement Ed and Doreen traveled to many destinations in Canada and the U.S.A., also making trips to Jamaica and Hawaii.  They spent many winters in Osoyoos, BC.  Ed was an avid bowler and enjoyed the weekly league. He took pride in his garden, even taking up canning his produce.  He was a regular on coffee row, everyday at 9 am Ed and his friends would gather and on Saturday mornings at 10 am he could be found at Rick’s Place having coffee with his family.  Ed loved his grandchildren immensely; they all were incredibly special to him.  He loved to see his family was growing and bragged about them to many.  Ed enjoyed visiting, having a refreshment and a competitive game of crib with whom ever came for a visit.  Ed will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his three children, 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren: DINAH (Darren) Schleper of Humboldt and family Ryan (Terrilyn) Schleper of Muenster and son Tobias, Myles (Candace) Schleper of Burr and children Jaxson, Jozie, Tye and Allivia and Tara (Ryan) Stuckel of Muenster and children Landen, Liam and Miley; GERALD Knoblauch of Saskatoon and family Lindsay (Brendon) McAuley of Saskatoon and children Makenna, Sadie and Talia, Chelsie (Jordan) Leavitt of Martensville and children Alexis and Haelyn; WAYNE (Lianna) Knoblauch and daughter Kayla Knoblauch, all of Humboldt; children of GINGER (Dave) Strueby: Aaron (Monique) Strueby and children Quinn and Jon, Geoff (Danielle) Strueby and children Millie and Rohan, Shaun (Lesa) Strueby and children Mason, Lauryn and Theo, all of Marysburg and Mathew (Morgan) Strueby of Caylie, AB and daughter Harper; sister Irene (Joe) Holz of  Osoyoos, BC; brothers-in-law Ray Biwer of Muenster and Lorne Suchan of Regina; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents August and Elizabeth Knoblauch; daughter and son-in-law Ginger and David Strueby; wife Doreen Knoblauch; brothers and sisters: Joe (Helen) Knoblauch, Ben Knoblauch, Leo Knoblauch, Alphonse Knoblauch, Veronica Biwer and Ella Suchan. A Private Family Service was held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan or Quill Plains Health Care Foundation Inc. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt (306-682-1622).
