Steven A. Volland Obituary

Steven A Volland passed away Friday, August 7 at the age of 64 following his battle with esophageal cancer. He fought hard and in the end was able to be at home in Florissant, CO surrounded by the family that he loved.

He touched the lives of so many with his genuine smile and his teddy bear charm and he will be sorely missed by those who knew him. A big guy with a big heart, he never denied a hand to help whether it be human or animal in need. His strength was admired, be it physical or mental yet his gentle spirit never looked for any acknowledgement.

He was the kindest most humble man, dedicated to taking care of his family. He worked hard but required no recognition. He just wanted to take care of us. He is a easy person to like and was well liked by most all people he came into contact with.

Steve was a devoted family man and provider. After moving to Colorado from Topeka, KS in 1994, he worked as an electrical lineman for over three decades, 24 years locally at IREA, before retiring at age 62.

He loved Colorado and enjoyed the outdoors whether it be for skiing, fly fishing, hiking, playing softball, taking drives through the mountains admiring the scenery and wildlife or simply sitting on the deck of his house surrounded by the air, the cats and the deer. In his older years, he loved snorkeling in the Florida keys with Sheila and swimming with the fish.

His love of music spanned from singing in a barbershop quartet, singalongs in the car on road trips with his family, playing John Denver and the Eagles on his guitar and banjo, to directing teen choir,  singing and running sound for worship team at Woodland Park Community Church for several years.

He lived 40 years with the love of his life, Sheila, raising a family in Topeka, KS then moving to Florissant.  Steve was a constant support to his wife and three daughters, giving them the strength to make it through today.

Born to Clarence and Fern Volland, Steve grew up in Council Grove, Kansas with brother, Jim, and sister, Diane. He is survived by his brother and sister, his beloved wife, Sheila, their daughters, Michelle, Angela and Katherine, and their grandchildren, Nina, Julian, Cody, Wyatt and Thomas.

A life can never be summed up in a matter of paragraphs but in the end he lived a life of kindness and compassion for others and he will be missed.

He was a man known to do anything for his girls... and this time that meant staying strong till he could be home to say goodbye. We love you forever. Rest in peace.
