Eleanor Alimonti

Eleanor Alimonti Long time Garwood Resident Eleanor Alimonti, 94 passed away August 9, 2020. Born in Westfield to Joseph & Maddalena (nee Stella) Mazza. Eleanor was a long time resident of Garwood from the time of her marriage of 72 years to Angelo. Together, in time, they built, with much sweat & tears, their home, of which they were very proud. Mrs. Alimonti initially worked sewing pea jackets for the military during World War II. She then began work at a paper factory in Garwood where she met Angelo. After his return from military service they married and set up their household in Garwood. Eleanor was a creative homemaker for many years before returning to work. She greatly enjoyed caring for her family & home, sewing curtains, cooking a variety foods, painting and generally doing virtually most home “fix-it” items. Early on she developed a “make do” attitude having grown up during the depression in a large family. Eleanor and Angelo enjoyed visiting Florida, with friends & family members, and visits to the Jersey shore, which continued following their honeymoon in Pt Pleasant. An anniversary trip to Hawaii was an especially memorable one. Angelo’s annual garden provided much follow up activity from Eleanor. Mrs. Alimonti is survived by her children Robert & wife Debra Alimonti & Joann & husband Dennis DiBattista, and granddaughter Amanda. Her be-loved husband Angelo departed last year. Eleanor is also survived by her brothers Anthony and Charles Mazza, sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings Ben, Louis, Joseph, Vincent & Millie. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Garwood Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
