Wendell A. Mason Obituary

Aurora, Utah - On Saturday August 8, 2020 Wendell A. Mason loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 93 at his home in Aurora, Utah. Wendell was born May 12, 1927 in Redmond, Utah a son of Ferald Austin Mason and Vivian Alida Anderson. Wendell attended North Sevier High School and then served in the United States Army in South Korea during World War II. On November 22, 1947 he married the love of his life, Roa Dean Shaw. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on June 21, 1958. Together they were blessed with three children, Marlene, Terri, and Ferald. Wendell always had a fascination with trucks, and from that fascination he developed a love and talent for mechanics. He worked as a mechanic for many companies. Men kept asking Wendell to work on their trucks in his spare time. He worked on them in his shed in the backyard. In 1972 he decided it was time to start his own business, Mason Diesel. He continued to go to “the shop” everyday until 3 weeks before he passed. In his later life he found great joy and satisfaction in restoring Mason Diesel’s 1953 International wrecker “Bertha”. Bertha was featured in the ATHS Magazine “The Wheels of Time.” Later in life restoring McCormick Tractors filled his spare time. Wendell was instrumental in starting the first Aurora Fire department. The garage at his house served as the original Firehouse. Wendell also enjoyed his time as a city councilman in Aurora. Fishing, camping, but most of all spending time with family put a smile on his face. He could also play the accordion and the harmonica by ear. He is survived by his loving wife, Roa; Children: Marlene and Ray Wood; Terri Nicholls; Ferald and Shannon Mason, 14 Grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Thurel and Karen Mason; Derrel and Kathy Mason; Royce and JoLynn Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferald Austin and Vivian Alida; Sister and Brother-in-law Evelyn and Fay Roberts; grandson Thomas Kirk Nicholls. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Springer Turner Funeral Home 260 North 400 West, Richfield, Utah, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM or Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services.
