Shelby “Dolleen” (Lilly) Bennett, 77, passed away August 7, 2020. Shelby was born August 28, 1942 in Dunns, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Joe C. & Pemel B. (Hutchens) Lilly of Cool Ridge, WV. She resided in Shady Spring, WV and also had resided in Boaz, WV. She currently was a resident at The Worthington Healthcare Center in Parkersburg, WV. She was a 1961 graduate of Shady Spring High School. She worked at Beckley Manufacturing before becoming a Hairdresser where she worked at Damon’s Hair in Beaver, WV, Haircrafting Salon in Daniels, WV and also Sue McCloy’s Hair Salon in Parkersburg, WV. Her hobbies of beautiful paintings & sewing quilts were loved by all who received them. After surviving two life threatening diseases, breast cancer & endocarditis, she developed Dementia. She then spoke daily of all her very special loved ones, alive or passed, that she still believed to be very much alive & visited her often. She also spoke of ‘gatherings’ with her family, which seemed to be what she treasured most in her life, along with her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. The family would like to thank those that visited & sent cards through those difficult times. She is survived by her three children, Deirdre ‘Dee’ Gant (Bobby) of Parkersburg, WV, Brian Bennett of Jacksonville, NC, and Brandon Bennett (Ronda) of Shady Spring, WV. She is survived by six grandchildren, Amanda Boyd, Bobbi Johnson, Ashley Gibson, Danielle Welch, Carly Bennett and Eric ‘Dean’ Meadows. Five great grandchildren, Haylee, Peyton, Clayton, Kinslee and Emma. She leaves behind one sister Dremma Smith and her husband Jackie of Cool Ridge, WV...A very special thank you to both of you for all you did for our Mom. She also has brothers Cheryl Lilly (Gearlene) of Mt Pilot, NC, Keith Lilly (Barb) of Cool Ridge, WV and Jeff Lilly of Cool Ridge, WV and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Jean Heishman (Spencer) of Timberville, Virginia and brother Barry Lilly (Mary) of Cool Ridge, WV. Arrangements have been entrusted to Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg where Shelby’s wishes of cremation will be honored. A private memorial & burial will be arranged at a later date.
