Donald Charles Teeters age 89, of Owatonna, died Thursday, August 6, 2020 at his home after a battle with Parkinson’s. A private family service will take place at St. John Lutheran Church, Owatonna, with interment at Dania Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit. Friends may greet the family Tuesday August 11, 2020 from 4-6:00 PM for a public visitation outside in the St. John Parking lot. Visitors are instructed to stay in their vehicles and drive by to greet the family. Donald Charles Teeters was born May 22, 1931, in, Owatonna, Minnesota. Don was the son of Jack and Ida Teeters. He attended school in Owatonna and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1949. Don farmed with his family. He served in the US Army from 1952-1954. Following his service to his country he returned to Owatonna to farm with his family. Don was married to the love of his life Donna Mae Eaker in 1956. Together Don & Donna raised two daughters, Julie Teeters Von Ruden and Jody Teeters Eckhardt. Don and Donna were married for 64 years. Don was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish whenever possible with his daughter, son-in-laws, grandchildren, and Buz. He enjoyed fishing at Rainy Lake, Flin Flon Manitoba and Lake Winnibigoshish. Music was a big part of Don’s life as he played clarinet and saxophone in several area bands, Ray Trenda, Romie and Ray Band, the Local 490 and Luvernes Concertina Band. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir for many years. Don was a dairy farmer and specialized in milking and raising a great herd of guernsey dairy cattle. Don and his family won many awards at the Steele County Free Fair, and State Fair. His biggest dairy cattle accomplishment was taking second place at the World Dairy Expo with his prize bull. In 1989, Don retired from farming and he moved to town to start a new career. Don was the first Wal-Mart employee hired in Minnesota. He worked at Wal-Mart for 30 years before finally retiring as a people greeter at the age of 82. Don Teeters was known by many people as Mr. Wal-Mart. Don was also a huge sports fan and enjoyed watching the Vikings, Twins, Lynx, Minnesota Gophers, and Timberwolves on his big screen television with his wife Donna. He and Donna were night owls and would not go to bed until the final points were scored. Don also enjoyed playing cards with his family and at the neighborhood card parties. He enjoyed helping Donna with the yard work and took great pride in having a beautiful, leafless, and spotless yard. Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Donna Teeters of Owatonna, his daughters Julie (Dennis) Von Ruden of Owatonna, Jody (Tom) Eckhardt of Blue Earth, his brother Kenneth Teeters, Sr., Owatonna his grandchildren, Nicole (Ken) Von Blinder, Landon Von Ruden, Natalie Von Ruden, Tyler Eckardt and Cody (Madeline) Eckhardt and two great grandchildren Weston Von Blinder and Violet Julie Ann Von Blinder.
