Albert Lowell Lenerville Obituary

Albert Lenerville, 89 years old, from Rapid City, passed away on August 6, 2020, at the Lippold Hospice Unit at Monument Health Sturgis Hospital. Albert was born to Edward Lowell and Theresa (Hitchcox) Lenerville on April 3, 1931, in Strool (Prairie City), SD. After graduating high school in 1949 from McIntosh High School, Albert entered the United States Air Force in 1949 and was stationed in Guam, working with cryptographic operations until his honorable discharge in 1953. For a short time, Albert returned to the Herb and Elga Breckenridge Ranch along the North Grand River in Perkins County, SD. Albert had worked for his longtime friends and mentors, the Breckenridge's, during his boyhood and summer years. Albert studied at SDSU in Brookings before his marriage to Alvina Ternes on October 6, 1958. Albert worked as office manager for Ace Construction on an Oahe Dam Project in Mobridge, SD. Later, he worked as office manager for Peter Kiewit & Sons. In 1965, Albert began a career in business administration with the rural electric cooperatives Mor-Gran-Sou in Flasher, ND, and later at Tipmont REMC in Linden, IN. He retired in December of 1996. Albert spent his retirement years in Spearfish, SD, where he enjoyed working a small hobby farm, auction sales, and visiting family. In 1994, Albert and Alvina moved to a retirement community, Good Samaritan Society, St. Martin Village in Rapid City. Albert suffered from Alzheimer’s for several years before his passing. Survivors are his wife, Alvina; one son, Herb (Julie) Lenerville; two daughters, Mary Harris and Anita McNeal; his brother, Doyle (Tottie) Lenerville; and sister, Bertha Lensing. He is also survived by grandchildren, Albert (Haylee), Theresa, Isidore, Matthew, Kathryn, and John; and many nieces and nephews. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy and Willis; sister, Gladys Mattern; brothers-in-law, Peter Mattern and Leon Lensing; nieces and nephews, Dillon Meyer, Jef Mattern, Caroline Dauwen, Bobbie Jo Dover, and Lowell Lensing; and great-granddaughter, Piper Eden Lenerville. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your favorite charity in Albert’s name. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Lippold Hospice Unit for their loving care. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2020, at Our Lady of the Black Hills Catholic Church in Piedmont with Father Andrzej Wyostek officiating. There will be one hour of visitation Prior to the Mass at the church, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
