Robert "Bob" H. Orton

Mr. Robert “Bob” H. Orton, 95, of Burlington, IA, died at 1:45 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2020 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation in Burlington IA. Born August 22, 1924 in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Roger and Clara (Sommerfeld) Orton. He married Virginia Marie Brockway March 8, 1946 in Burlington. Bob was a graduate of Burlington High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during WWII as Private First Class. He received 2-Purple Hearts and 1-Bronze Star. Bob upholstered furniture for 44 years with Chittenden & Eastman Company. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was a life member of DAV; VFW; American Legion: Moose Lodge #579; past President & member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #150; YMCA and RSVP. Bob loved camping, hunting, fishing and going to the Cabin. Survivors include his wife of 74 years Virginia Orton of Burlington; daughter, Janet (Dan) Snyder of Burlington, IA; two sons, Gary (Suzanne) Orton of Burlington, IA and Alan (Sharon) Orton of Burlington, IA; one granddaughter, three grandsons; eight great-granddaughters; five great-great grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Helen Rawlings of Burlington, IA and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold; two sisters, Betty Engle and Barb Mylon; grandson Chris Orton. The funeral service for Mr. Orton will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 10th at Lunning Chapel. Rev. Elizabeth Bell will officiate. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from Noon – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9th. Family will not be present. A memorial has been established for Eagles Club Charities and Asbury United Methodist Church.
