Michael Jerome Stokes

Michael Jerome Stokes, age 66, was born in Wilmington, DE on July 4, 1954 to the late Olen Stokes Sr., and Isabelle Riley Stokes. He peacefully departed his life on August 5, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Michael received his education in the Wilmington Public School System. He was employed with General Motors Corp for over 35 years and retired in 2009. He then took a position at the Newark senior center as a driver for several years until he became ill. This position included door to door pickup/delivery for each senior, weekly shopping trips, as well as out of town day excursions. Throughout his lifetime, Michael touched the lives of many individuals. He will be remembered as the gentle man with the loud laugh, big smile, and giving heart. Michael was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny Wimbley and Rickey Stokes. He is survived by his sons, Michael A. Watson and Tobias J. Stokes; nephew, Rickey Stokes, Jr., Booger Blossom AKA Beverly Stokes; Stepson, Damon Ellison; sibling, Olen Jr.; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
