It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Denis Roy, of Domremy, SK. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at St Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, SK, on July 29, at the age of 89 years. Denis was born on February 8, 1931, to Hudor and Florida (Poulin) Roy, in Wakaw, SK. He was the youngest child of his siblings, with nine older brothers and sisters. Denis was a farmer his entire life and had a passion for the land. He also had a passion for learning. He eagerly researched, tested, and used new farming technologies. He loved reading, both fact and fiction. He instilled in all his children a love of reading. As well, Denis was active in the local education system, serving for many years as a school division trustee. Denis also loved to sing. Combined this with his faith, he sang for many years in the choirs of the Domremy and Bellevue congregations, as well as at the St. Laurent Shrine heritage site. Although his interests were varied and wide-ranging, Denis' life always focused around his farm, the centre of which was the family farmstead which he worked after his parents retired to Prince Albert, SK. Denis married his beloved wife Ninette Gaudet on August 3, 1954 in Prince Albert. Denis was predeceased by his parents Hudor and Florida, his wife Ninette in 2008, his eldest son Michel, his grandson Eric, his 4 brothers Henri, Mathias, Gerard and Andre, and his 5 sisters Candide, Marguerite, Louise, Simone, and Jeanne. Denis will be missed by his children: Roland (Jocelyn), Diane, Aline, Julie (William), and Nicole; his 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society. The Mass opf Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Matthew Nguyen at 10:30 am August 4, 2020 at the St. Isidore Roman Catholic Church in Bellevue, SK. The Interment followed at Memorial Gardens in Prince Albert. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Marc Blondeau at Kushneryk Funeral Service of Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
